some more words from Dude

I am telling you that Dude is HILARIOUS!! He comes up with some of the craziest things.

Earlier this week he got into trouble for making a huge mess of his (and Bubba’s room).  He was told to clean it all up.
Dude:  Why do I always have to clean up everything in this house?
Me: Because you make all of the messes
Dude: THIS IS NOT OVER! (he then stomped off)

We were working in the yard today and he was ready to go in.
Dude: Are ready to go already?
Me: I am still working
Dude:  What are you? A whackadoodle or something?  It is too hot.

We were going to get the mail and I told him to stay inside.  He followed me out the door and started walking up the street.
Me: Where are you going?
Dude: I am running away.
Me: Where are you running to?
Dude: Canada
Me:  How are you going to get there?
Dude: I am taking the subway.

Just now as they boys were settling down for bed, Bubba was getting squirrely and bothering Dude.
Dude: Would. You. Please. Stop. Sing. Ing?!?!
Bubba: Why?Whats the matter?Don’t you like my singing?”
Dude: I. Just. Want. Some. Peace. and. QUIET!! NOW!!!

I have no idea where he gets this stuff.  I also have no idea how I entertained myself before I had kids.  These guys are hilarious and I am in for it for the next 15 years!!

mission planning

In less than three weeks The Hubs, Bubba, Dude and I will be on the road to with a team from our church heading to the Wabaseemoong (White Dog) First Nation Indian Reserve in Canada.  We are going to work with a missionary in the area that is planting churches.  Our goal is to build relationships with the members of the Ojibway tribe through acts of service, times of fellowship, and a Vacation Bible School for the kids.

We are really excited to go and are gathering everything we will need.  The Hubs, Bubba and I got our passports yesterday.  We are hoping Dude’s comes tomorrow and that there are no problems with his.

Our team has been meeting regularly to plan the logistics of an 18+ hour drive, sleeping in a school, preparing VBS and fellowship activities.  Most importantly we have been spending time prayer for our trip.  We ask that you would join us in prayer for this mission trip. Pray for guidance and safety for our team.  We also ask you to pray for us as we meet and visit with people that have been hurt by missionaries in the past.  Our trip will not be successful unless it is filled with prayer.  Please join us in that.

If you would like to help financially or by donating supplies, let me know and I will contact you directly on how to do that.

Also, I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed/under prepared with the idea of sharing my faith and ministering with people that A. have been hurt by people in the past or B. people that have absolutely NO clue about the Christian faith.

Do you have any words of wisdom or advice in talking to people?  Can you recommend a book that I can read in the next few weeks?  Do you have any experiences that you can share that would be helpful (where you have done what we are doing or you have been burned by people doing what we are doing)?

Dude says

Dude is my 4 year old and he is the craziest kid I know.  His facial expressions are unbelievable and he says the most hilarious things.
We were out late the other night and I was teaching the boys about wishing on a star.  Dude started thinking about what he was going to wish for. He was very thoughtful (visualized your most exaggerated ‘thinking face’) and then blurted out that he was going to wish for a mustache!
Because he has always wanted one and the only one he has ever had not real.

Baseball almanac

image

Bubba picked this book up at the library today.  This is against my better judgment as The Hubs will use this as a way to remind me that (in his twisted mind) the Kansas City Royals are somehow better than the St. Louis Cardinals.

Anyway as we were sitting in the library looking at books, Bubba kept asking about the players on the 1985 Royals team. He was quickly able to identify George Brett and Frank White based on their jersey number (5 and 20 respectively).  Bubba also quickly pointed out that the manager Dick Howser’s number is also retired.
He then started questioning the players numbers.  He said isn’t number 1 Dyson? And isn’t Moose number 8 instead of that guy (Sundberg). He pointed out the number 4 is now Alex Gordon and not Greg Pryor and that 21 is now “Frenchy” and no longer Lonnie Smith.
He was able to name all of the Royals current starting lineup as well as many of their bench players. Where have I gone wrong?
Bubba is like a walking baseball almanac.  He knows all of the teams, their mascots, the names of their stadiums.  He can tell you whose number have been retired. Bubba is obsessed with records and facts about baseball.  His favorite channel is currently MLB network.  It is amazing. I hope this leads to a career (and salary) worthy of major league baseball.

Mud bath

Yesterday we spent the day celebrating dads.  Well, not really.  The boys spent the day playing in the mud.  They started in the little pool we have in the back yard as the Hubs and I cleaned out the garage and washed cars.  After Bubba and Dude splashed most of the water out of the pool, they dumped the rest and started squishing their toes in the soggy ground.  They very quickly created a mud spot and started wrestling.  After they were covered in mud they told me they were doing spa treatments.  All in all they spent almost 2 hours playing in the mud.  I got the garage cleaned up and both cars got washed.  It was a great father’s day for me.  I am pretty sure the Hubs thought so too.

That is mud on their faces, not shadows.

The Hubs spraying the boys down before I let them come into the house. He didn’t get all the mud… they turned the bath tub a dark shade of brown and left enough dirt in there for me to fill a pot plant some seeds.

Who said boys don’t play dress up?

Bubba and Dude striking a pose in their costumes

As I was cleaning up the kitchen and putting away groceries this afternoon the boys got silly with the plastic sacks.  Before I knew it, they were wearing them like skirts.  Bubba was trying to scotch tape pieces together to embellish things so I stepped in and offered up the duct tape and some help.

They giggled all day about their new outfits.  I was able to indulge in a little dress up that I have felt like I have been missing out on by having only sons. Dude even asked for a hanger to put his “dress” on in the closet.

The hubs was not too enthusiastic about the whole thing when he got home from work but he went with it.  Neither of us is concerned about them wearing heels to high school.  Plus we have some really awesome blackmail for the future.

Walking S’mores

I found this recipe online earlier this summer but can’t remember where I read it.  It is so easy, though, that I read it once and was able to create it.

Melt some chocolate in the microwave (I used half a bag… 30 sec at a time so it doesn’t burn)
Crush some graham crackers in a bowl (I did about 4 full crackers)
Put straws into marshmallows (I cut 10 straws in half and used 20 marshmallows)
I dunked the mallows into the melted chocolate then rolled it in the graham crimson. I placed them on wax paper on a cooking sheet. After they were all dipped I put them in the freezer for about 5 minutes to set the chocolate.
They were yummy!
